Artist Statement

My work explores the relationship between anesthesia and formaldehyde; the symbiosis of chemicals used to sedate and preserve.

With influences as diverse as Wilma Mankiller and Peekaboo Street, dynamism is created from the imperial ladders of patriarchy to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new materializations, and to boldly express the hedonism of our modern day society.

Ever since I was a child I have been intrigued by Peewee Herman, Eeyore, and Oscar. What starts out as a childhood assemblage of characters soon reflects the disposition of introverted artist types, leaving only a sense of the calamity our society weighs upon us, and the possibility of new understanding in this post-industrial hyper techno era.

As shifting phenomena shapes the chemical compounds of the very air we breathe, the viewer is left with a shaking conundrum of post-grunge punk rock and lighthearted whisps of fairies and elfish creatures lurking through monocropped doug fir forests, with only stumps left to rekindle their memories of times before Weyerhouser, Rush Limbaugh, Monsanto, Agent Orange, and sliced cheese.
